Glossary of terms

A quick glossary of terms I use in Second Gen Graveyard.

NOS =

New Old Stock

Means an original new part, not a reproduction, that has never been installed or used on a vehicle. Generally NOS parts are expected to be in original packaging, and in our case GM packaging.

OEM =

Means Original Equipment Manufacturer. The OEM is the original producer of a vehicle's components, and so OEM car parts are identical to the parts used in producing a vehicle. Keep in mind that GM did not make all its own parts, and sourced parts from many different manufacturers.

Reproduction =

A reproduction part, that has been independently manufactured to meet Original Equipment Manufacturer specifications by a third- party manufacturer. This is usually done to meet demand for parts no longer produced by the manufacturer. While some reproductions may be indistinguishable from the originals, most are close imitations and some are very poor.

OER -

OER is a company making/sourcing reproduction parts. These are not OEM parts in most all cases. OER is affiliated with Classic Industries and sells their products through Classic Industries and other vendors such as Second Gen Graveyard.

Show Quality-

This part would be at home on a show car and will not have any noticeable flaws, defects, or mars.

Driver Plus -

This part falls between Show Quality and Driver Quality. It may have some small barely noticeable flaw, mark, or defect.

Driver Quality =

A part in a condition that would be acceptable to use on a daily driver type vehicle. It will have some flaws, scratches, or defects keeping it from being Driver Plus or Show Quality.

Good Used Condition -

A part I believe will work for the customer after some cleaning and or repainting.
