All about windowsweeps

Windowsweeps are also called belt moldings. They are located at the top of the door and are the rubber pieces that the side window rolls up and down between.

There are three types of OUTER windowsweeps available for our 70-81 Firebirds.

1) Wide flat chrome bead. No bueno. These are for Camaros.

2) Thin round chrome bead. This is what you want for your bird. Unless you have the “Decor Trim” package. The photos of the silver 1971 Firebird shows the thin chrome bead.

3) No chrome bead. You ONLY want this type if you have the “Decor Trim” package. The rubber on these sweeps barely goes over the top of the door lip.

The photos of Nathan’s blue 71 show the Decor Trim package. It consists of chrome moldings which mount to the outside of the door on pins, fender tip trim and a chrome trim for the back of the hood.

The windowsweeps DO NOT run the full length of the top of the door. They start at about the side mirror and end short of the back end of the door.

Inner windowsweeps are stappled to the doorpanels. Outer window sweeps are screwed to the inside of the top of the door. If you buy a windowsweep “set” from us consisting of oinner and outer sweeps, you will get new staples to mount the inner sweeps, new screws to mountthe outer sweeps, and new stick on felt to replace any worn felt on your windowguides
